| Studio diary from the recording of "God Has A Plan For Us All" |

About
a week in to the mix we now have two songs done and the third one
close on its way to being finished. Everything has gone really well
and we´re all really happy with the result.
All the people and crew here at Sidelake Studios in Sundsvall/Sweden
are extremely talented and have been completely invaluable to us
in the making of this album! This building and studio complex really
holds some amazing skills and talent and it´s really great
to be working with the people here.
Our "brother in arms" and dear work buddy who handles
everything like a true wizard and is able to put up with the two
of us and our very specific and detailed demands regarding every
detail in our music, Micke Öhlen deserves a truckload of extra
credit for everything he´s done and have had to put up with
from us throughout this recording that continues yet for another
couple of weeks :)
So does all of our dear friends and family who have helped us out
with everything from letting us borrow guitars, basses, amps and
gear and proffesionally documenting everything we do to simply being
here for us and helping out whenever we need something.. We wouldn´t
have made it this far without all of you, so thanks A LOT! |

After
a very long but very rewarding weekend in the initial part of the
mix, we´ve been able to sort out all the various channels
and details and Daniel Bergstrand helped us out to get a really
great sound! We´re very happy with the result and now it´s
time for us to continue working with all the fine tuning details
and then we´re done with the first song for the album.
From now on studio wizard and owner "Master Micke" :)
will take over the job of being in charge of everything and myself
(Chris) and Tommy will be right behind him assisting and working
along side all the way. Due to work duties and distance Sarah will
unfortunately not be able to be physically present during the mix,
but we work closly together and she´s part of every step of
the way althou she´s not able to be here.

Today
we start mixing the album and are happy to announce that Daniel
Bergstrand (has produced In Flames, Soilwork, Strapping Young Lad,
Behemoth etc etc). that helped us out in the beginning of the recording
by setting up the drums and drum sound, has taken time out of his
busy schedule to once again come up to Sundsvall and Sidelake Studios
to help us out in the initial phase of the mix.
Assisted by studio owner Micke Öhlen who will be in charge
of mixing the rest of the album, he will be here this weekend to
help us sort everything out and get a good start with the sound
of the album |

After
working hard to finish every detail and getting everything recorded
and edited to manage record the vocals for the album, on january
6, Sarah came to Sundsvall/Sweden and Sidelake Studios to record
the vocals. After many various types of possible and impossible
technical problems along the way throughout this recording, the
vocal recording went really well, way above our expectations in
fact. No glitches, no technical problems and everything went really
smooth.
A proper studio report of the vocal recording with images and diary
from Sarah etc. is being prepared and will be uploaded on this site
in the studio report section as soon as it´s done.
After Sarah was done with the vocals, which took much less time
than expected since she did a really good job, we had two days to
finish editing everything before we start mixing the album.. |

Yesterday
was another long day. A 17 hour shift recording guitars resulted
in all rythm guitars and dubbs being finished on all songs. With
bleeding fingertips it´s back to the studio today again to
continue laying down melody and harmony guitars..
Good friend and photographer Magnus Byström stopped by the
studio again to take a few pics during the guitar recording!

Dave enters Springvale
at 12 noon on Saturday 17th Dec. Positive and ready to play! I planned
on going but he is was doing so well, he didn't really need me to
be there. He completed 3 songs with only a few hitches! But it wasn't
going as fast as he had hoped! Sunday, he is back in... all is going
well. But today we are expecting my sister (she is a photographer)
and Aaron from My Dying Bride who will do guest vocals on a yet to
be named track. Because Dave is getting on a bit, he needs to take
regular breaks, so he takes a lunch break after he has completed 1
and a half songs and Aaron gets in his booth, ready to narrate and
sing! My sister has been snapping away, hence the pictures that you
see in this report! You wouldn't believe she has no arms would you!
Very talented! Anyway, No problems at all! Im constantly smiling!
I've waited years to get Aaron into a dark room! Everything has gone
to plan really, though i was worried things would go very wrong. I
was expecting someone not to turn up! As Mark Harwood puffs away on
cigs, Dave arrives back and starts his bass again! I have to shoot
off because i have work in the morning! Im sooo much fun! Aaron stays
with Dave to talk about Glasses.
Dave finally finished his bass on Tuesday and his
comments were "Ive never done anything so technical in my life".
That's so cool for us to hear, especially Chris and Tommy! Im hoping
that Dave will also play with us live but as i said,he is getting
on a bit!
I always thought
bass was very simple to play but what Dave has done proves otherwise!
It really does take a talented player to do what he has done and
im so damn proud of him! He hasn't had an easy job, even Mark thought
the bass lines were chaotic! So 5 gold stars to you Dave! ;) And
as for Aaron, i don't need to say how i feel about that whole experience....Thanks
to my sister for taking photo's of strange people! She is currently
in Mongolia taking photo's of 12 legged ants! |

The
recording at Springvale Studios has gone great and below is an official
statement regarding the matter from Sarah:
"With a few technical hitche's but thing's running to plan,
we have finally recorded the bass! My search for a bassist wasn't
hard, I had two in mind, equally as talented and equally as amazing!
Ryan Sinn from The Distillers & Dave Pybus from Cradle of Filth/Six
Six Six Record's.
Due to budget & time, Dave did the dirty job. It made sense
because he doesn´t live far from me. Personally it's a shame
we couldn´t have had two bass players! The track's were recorded
in Springvale
Recording Studio's by Mark Harwood, who is famous for various Cradle Of
Filth work & Extreme Noise Terror, amongst other's.
Finally, a dream come true for me! A song with Aaron from My
Dying Bride. I´ve waited year's to sing with his immaculate
voice! It's at last happened. No title for the track as of yet but
the lyric's have been written by the both of us"

Along
side with recording the guitars here in Sweden, we´re happy
to announce that the bass for the album will be recorded by Dave
Pybus (Cradle Of Filth/Six Six Six Records) with Mark at Springvale
Studios in England. Aaron Stainthorpe (My Dying Bride) will
also contribute to the album by laying down some vocals. More information
regarding the progress will be posted shortly. |

It´s
been been a while since the last update. A lot that has to be done
and very little time to do it in.. After messing around with various
technical problems again we´ve finally managed to sort everything
out and can now focus on start recording the guitars for the album.
We´re assembling all the amps and guitar gear we need for
the recording to start sorting out the guitar sound which will take
a while as usual :) |

After
working around 16 hour days for almost a week straight during the
drum recording, we got a few well deserved days of rest to get our
strength and focus back up again to prepare for the next stage of
the recording process.
We´ve now started the task of going thru and sorting out all
the 21 channels that were used for the drums, to make sure that
everything is in order and ok before we can start the next stage
- which is recording the guitars.. |

This
day has now also come to an end and we´re happy to say that
we´re now finished with the recording of the drums for the
album. We also managed to arrange a photo session with Magnus Byström
who was kind enough to adapt himself to our tight schedule and shoot
pictures of Andreas before he had to leave for home.
These days we´ve spent recording have been very long and hectic,
but extremely fun! Andreas has done a very good job and it´s
been a very pleasant experiance to have gotten to know him and work
with him.
We asked Andreas to write down his thoughts about these days in
a studio diary which you can read by pressing the link below.

Today
started with a few techincal problems again, but since we only had
two more songs to finish for the entire day, we manged to stay on
schedule despite the technical problems, and finish the drums on
the two remaining songs.
Andreas has done a terrific job with handling the drums on the album,
and even thou it at times can be very difficult to work with a please
the two of us, the Rehn brothers, he´s been nothing but great
as both a person and professional musician.
We´re going to get a few hours of sleep now, and tomorrow
we´ll go thru all the songs to make sure everything is alright
on all songs. We´ve also scheduled a photo shoot tomorrow
with good friend and photographer Magnus Byström to take pictures
of Andreas for the album booklet.

Another
long day (and night again) has come to an end. Everything went smoothly
and working in a bit more calm way than yesterday, we managed to
lay down the drums on four more tracks today... A couple of hours
of sleep, and then it´s back in the studio to finish the rest
of the remaining songs...

Owner
and technician Micke Öhlen has managed to fix all the technical
problems we had yesterday so now we can start recording properly.
Since all of saturday was speant setting up - micing - and setting
the drum sound, and all of sunday was speant at trying to figure
out sollutions to the technical problems, today was basically the
first recording day used only for actual recording.
When the day (and night) came to an end, Andreas had managed to
lay down the drums on five tracks. A few hours of sleep and the
recording continues...

Anyone
who has ever done any type of recording in a studio knows first
hand that it´s very rare to go thru an entire session from
beginning to end without any technical problems or mishaps along
the way! Today was one of those "all equipment fails for
no reason and we don´t know what is wrong"!
The first hour of the day started out great and we laid down the
drums on almost an entire track. But then the technical problems
began and each problem was followed by another one, making it impossible
to get anything down. We basically spent the entire day trying to
figure out what was causing the problems and the hours went by..
In the early hours of the morning we decided to call it a day, and
continue on monday morning when we could get technical help and
figure out the source of the problems and get it fixed so we could
continue recording.

and sorting out the initial drum sound. It was a long day, but everything
went great and the recording continues...

Andreas
Brobjer, the drummer who will lay down the drums on
the album, has arrived in Sundsvall, and we´re spending the
day at the temporary drum set up location to reherse the songs and
go thru and prepare the final details for the recording session
that starts on saturday morning. The pictures below are from the
rehersing session. |
